Local police participation on the oversight or policy team is important for the long-term stability of any drug court. Law enforcement is responsible for the arrest that places participants in the program. If law enforcement views drug court as a soft-on-crime, ineffective program, they will not only fail to support the program, but could even serve as a roadblock to a successful program. A strong linkage between drug court and law enforcement can bring an abundance of additional resources to the program.
