Melon

(Cucumis melo) Dreaming of melons is reckoned quite lucky. If the dreamer is a young girl, it is a sign of being married to a rich foreigner, and living abroad (Raphael). presumably because the melon is a foreign fruit. If a sick person dreams of them, then the juicy flesh promises recovery (Gordon. 1985). There is one other superstition, from China, in this case. There it is said that if you eat the pulp too much it will cause pimples, bring on fever, and cause general debility (F P Smith). In Chinese medicine, they are prescribed for cancer of the stomach. An oddity is the Kentucky practice of washing the face with melon rind to get rid of freckles (Thomas & Thomas).
