Flote Grass

(Glyceria fluitans) In North America, the seeds used to be collected and sold as "manna seeds" (hence the American name Mannagrass (Douglas)), for making puddings and gruel. It was even cultivated there for the purpose (C P Johnson).

Foeniculum vulgare > FENNEL FOOL'S WATERCRESS

(Apium nodiflorum) It seems a little hard to saddle this plant with the name Fool's Watercress, inferring that anyone mistaking the two plants would be a fool indeed. Even if the mistake were made, no great harm would be done, and it is significant that most of the local names given to it belong to the cresses, even though this plant is not a cress. West country people used to collect it at one time, to cook with meat in pies and pasties (Grigson. 1955), more particularly, it seems, in the neighbourhood of Polperro (Quiller-Couch).
