What Are The Potential Side Effects Of Clomid

Many women do not experience any side effects at all. However, our bodies and how they react to medication can vary, and thus some women do encounter unpleasant side effects.

Here is a list of some of the more common side effects that you may encounter while taking Clomid:

• Abdominal discomfort or bloating

• Nausea and vomiting

• Tender breasts

• Blurred vision or other visual disturbances

• Abnormal uterine bleeding or spotting

In addition, approximately 5 percent of women using Clomid will develop an ovarian cyst, which is an enlarged fluid-filled structure within your ovary. It may cause you some discomfort. However, in most cases, these cysts are completely benign and will go away without any treatment. If you suspect that you have an ovarian cyst, please see your doctor right away for an evaluation.

Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) is an even rarer complication. This is a potentially serious condition, where your ovaries become enlarged, form large cysts, and can cause tremendous discomfort. Although OHSS may occur with Clo-mid, OHSS is more likely to occur if you are taking stronger ovulation-inducing medications. OHSS is discussed in more detail at the end of this chapter.

Be sure to notify your doctor if you experience any of these or any other unusual symptoms. You should also call your doctor if you are taking Clomid and do not have a menstrual period by cycle day 35. That's because you may have failed to ovulate or you may be pregnant! In either case, talk with your doctor to determine what is happening to your body.
